The following explains the physical nature and some of the experience of my suspended, highly precise, minimalist sculpture:
To me the best minimalism is when maximum experience value is achieved with as little as possible. This work provides much to experience.
Each is a precisely orchestrated series of acrylic panels suspended to imply an abstract form floating in space. But the experience is quite explicit.
The panels are positioned exactly parallel and equidistant resulting in a consistent pattern that's easily interpreted as a whole.
The material is fluorescent and semi-transparent to enhance the intensity and perception of a magical inner space. The edges play a crucial role in this.
Using natural pendulate forces (momentum, gravity, etc.), each suspended panel moves according to its own regular rhythm.
Acting as a frame for the entire form, a mirror hovers above the work to reflect a bird's eye view.
With a kaleidoscope of shifting reflections and overlapping layers, the experience is contemplative yet complex and fascinating due to its mysterious unity of light, dimensionality, time and, of course, space.
Using many cords and pulleys to assist with construction, each work requires great precision and care.
